Understanding Barriers to Accessing Personal Care Services in California – Justice in Aging

This webinar will take place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. PT.

Personal care services play a vital role for older adults and people with disabilities who need assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, cooking, and cleaning. These services enable them to live and age in their communities rather than in institutional settings such as nursing facilities. In California, Medi-Cal supports over 800,000 disabled adults through a variety of programs aimed at providing these essential services.

To gain deeper insight into the accessibility of Medi-Cals personal care services, Justice in Aging conducted in-depth interviews with over 80 individuals, including personal care consumers, providers, advocates, state and national policymakers, and other key stakeholders.

Join us for a one-hour webinar, Understanding Barriers to Accessing Personal Care Services in California, where we will share the findings from these interviews. The webinar will cover the following:

  • An overview of Medi-Cal personal care services and programs
  • The barriers people face in accessing personal care services, especially those with the most complex health and social needs
  • Policy recommendations aimed at improving access to personal care services for those who need them most.

We invite you to participate in this important discussion and explore solutions to make personal care services more accessible to those with the highest medical and social needs.’
